SHIR CHADASH: Temple Choir

Shir Chadash, meaning New Song, is the name of our Community Choir which begins its sixth season this month. Knowing that many of you would like to join us in song but might have difficulty fitting a rehearsal or two into your schedule, we have created a new way for you to learn some of the music - with the intention of singing in certain spots during services on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. If you have any questions, please contact our Student Cantor, Kathy Gohr.

How's it going to work? What skills do you need? Read on!
Here are a few FAQ's which we hope might help you to make a decision:

Is joining the choir a life time committment?

Joining the choir does not require a huge time commitment!! Please know that singing with us does not commit you to be in synagogue at every moment throughout all of the High Holy Day services, nor does it require you to be at every rehearsal throughout the year. We all have busy lives, and we will welcome you whenever you're available!

Do I need to be the next winner of America's Got Talent to join the choir?

Absolutely not! Come to our choir rehearsal armed with enthusiasm and a pencil! You do not need to be able to read music or Hebrew to participate. Some of our members this past year have years of experience singing in choirs, and for others this is a first. We are friendly and no one is ever left out - of that I can promise you.

Am I the right age for the choir?

We are an intergenerational choir - our members vary in age from 10 through 110, but we listen to and help each other, have a great time and create beautiful music together.
